The steel construction is coated with a thin layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion, which is caused by water and air. We galvanise sheds, tin garages, watchtowers and any other structure on request. Zinc coating in an urban environment can show several times the resistance of ungalvanised steel. This is because the standard potential of zinc is much more electronegative than that of iron. Zinc will corrode first and its corrosion products will slow down further corrosion. If the integrity of the zinc coating is broken, it will continue to protect the base material from corrosion. This phenomenon is called sacrificial corrosion.
